Comparative Study on Finite-Precision Controller Realizations in Different Representation Schemes

چکیده
A computationally tractable finite word length (FWL) closed-loop stability measure is derived which is applicable to fixed-point, floating-point and block-floating-point representation schemes. Both the dynamic range and precision of an arithmetic scheme are considered in this new unified measure. For each arithmetic scheme, the optimal controller realization problem is defined and a numerical optimization approach is adopted to solve it. Two examples are used to illustrate the design procedure and to compare the optimal controller realizations in different representation schemes.

متن کاملController realizations of a teleoperated dual-wrist assembly system with finite word length considerations
This paper presents some implementation issues of finite-precision optimal and quasioptimal sparse controller structures applied to a teleoperated dual-wrist assembly system. The relevant stability robustness measures and the optimization search procedures for both the optimal and the quasioptimal sparse Finite Word Length (FWL) controller realizations are described. Comparative analytical and ...
متن کاملOptimal Finite-Precision Controller Realizations in Block-Floating-Point Format
The paper analyzes the properties of the controller coefficient perturbation resulting from using finite word length (FWL) block-floating-point arithmetic and investigates the closed-loop stability issue of finite-precision realizations for digital controllers implemented in block-floating-point format. A true FWL closed-loop stability measure is derived which considers both the dynamic range a...
متن کاملFinite Wordlength Controller Realizations Using the Specialized Implicit Form Thibault Hilaire, Philippe Chevrel, James F. Whidborne
A specialized implicit state-space representation is introduced to deal with finite wordlength effects in controller implementations. This specialized implicit form provides a macroscopic description of the algorithm to be implemented. So, it constitutes a unifying framework, allowing to encompass various implementation forms, such as the δ-operator, the ρDirect Form II transposed, observer-bas...
متن کاملImplicit State-space Representation : a Unifying Framework for Fwl Implementation of Lti Systems
Practically, some intermediary realizations are used in order to simulate, numerically, dynamic systems. One of the most popular is the state-space realization. It reveals to be very useful to study the impact of Finite Word Length implementation, especially in the case of embedded controller. Numerous works concerned the design of the ”best” realization concerning parameterisation, numerical n...
